#2: The Power of Affirming

Thank you to everyone that checked out my first blog post last week! This week you are in for a treat as we discuss the importance of being real and honest with yourself.

If you haven't already, I invite you to check out last week's blog so that you can have a good inner-standing of what to expect from this blog and future postings.

Let's get started

“It was in that moment that I realized the complete truth that lived within that phrase.”

I once heard that the only thing keeping you from reaching your goals is YOU. This has stuck with me since the day that I heard it. I remember having an inner talk with myself and during the talk I began to visualize the life that I wanted to live. It was in that moment that I realized the complete truth that lived within that phrase. I was indeed the only thing holding myself stagnate. Me and the thoughts, ideas, assumptions and definitions that resided within me.

What is an affirmation?

I am not sure if you are familiar with affirmations, but I consider an affirmation to be an empowering sentence, statement, or declaration. It was after hearing that phrase and having the self reflection and talk with myself that I began to disown my unhealthy thoughts and started to use affirmations to build the life I wanted - and deserved. I always make sure that my affirmations start with, "I AM". For example, "I am healed from dis - ease" (or disease for those who have not realized that disease/illness is just your body experiencing something that makes it uneasy or puts it at dis - ease). More examples of affirmations are, "I am successful and I only attract positive people and things."

We are just getting warmed up. Stay with me..

“Thinking and saying negative things leads to experiencing negative things.”

The daily use of affirmations and my commitment to being consistent with saying them, has allowed me to take control of my thoughts. I've finally learned an effective way to remove and reframe any negative thoughts that enter my mind. Now, there are times when I am caught slipping, but as soon as I notice it, I quickly affirm something positive to replace the negative. No longer am I yearning to be a good mother, but I affirm each day that I am. No longer am I seeking healing, but I affirm daily that I am healed. This healing affirmation actually led to me receiving amazing news at one of my doctor visits. We as melanated women can choose now to affirm that we are emotionally available mothers, sisters, wives and goddesses, and YES! - our melanated men should do to this too.

When we affirm and speak into existence who we wish to be, what we wish to have, what we wish to stop or even who we wish to detach from, we literally force it to happen. Thinking and saying negative things leads to experiencing negative things. In order to change your life through affirmations, you have to be mindful of your thoughts and words. I will not lie to you, this is not an easy thing to do. In fact, it forces you to have real conversations with yourself where you may have to admit things that you are not comfortable admitting. However, if you want to be successful, you have to be completely honest with yourself and who better to be honest with? Lying to ourselves is the worst thing we can ever do. It causes us to live in a reality that stifles us and causes us not to thrive. Being real with yourself will get you further along in your journey to revealing who you truly are.

Bringing it home

Making the commitment to affirm who I was and the life I was ready to live gave me a sense of freedom and lightness. No longer am I weighed down by the heaviness of people pleasing or the daily stressors of systematic life/living. Being in control of my reality allows me to not be boggled down by the realities that others may try to paint for me. This sense of clarity and empowerment can be yours too, if you choose it. I think it is also important to note that during my daily practice of creating the life I want by affirming it, I never deny or hide from the person that I was prior or the life I lived previously. I find great pride in my past because I know that my past actions, decisions, obstacles and lessons led to me being who I am today and will lead me to being all that I have yet to become in the future. We all have a story and some hard shit that we have had to face. We can all still have a beautiful, healthy and abundant future by choosing to believe, speak and live it right now! Do not continue to be the only thing holding you back.

The Practice

Take a second to write down two wishes that you have. Maybe you wish to be healed from a certain illness, maybe you wish to get your own shelter, maybe you wish to be removed from a toxic situation. Whatever it is, I want you to search affirmations related to your wish. For example, if you wish to be healed from cancer, search "affirmations for healing cancer", etc. Write down or screenshot the ones that resonates with you and make a daily schedule and commitment to saying them. Once it comes true, let us know! Most importantly, once you see for yourself the power of affirming, encourage another melanated being to start their journey 2 self by doing the same thing.

Until next time,

Uniquely Aniqua
